In 2010, the School of Education and Human Development was selected to serve as the headquarters to the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA). UCEA is a consortium of higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children.

Affiliated Centers & Labs
While currently paused, the work of Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (CASTL-HE) Lab studies the relationship between college teaching and pedagogy and student learning outcomes at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level. CASTL-HE endeavors to become the global leader in the evidence-based study of postsecondary teaching and learning by linking the examination of instructional practice to student learning outcomes.
Young Women Leaders Program
Since its founding in 1997, YWLP has grown to serve 7th and 8th grade girls in four Central Virginia middle schools by pairing them with UVA undergraduate mentors. More than a dozen “sister sites” have been founded using the YWLP model around the US and internationally. YWLP is a research-based mentoring program that incorporates all of the recently recommended thirteen “best practices” in mentoring.
