Justin B. Thompson

Justin Thompson is the senior associate dean for administration and chief financial officer at the McIntire School of Commerce. Previously, he served for thirteen years as the senior associate dean and chief operating officer at the School of Education and Human Development.

Thompson holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Education Leadership, Foundations and Policy. Recent teaching assignments include graduate courses in management, planning, budget, finance, and history of higher education. Thompson engages in professional development activities with international higher education leaders, both in Charlottesville and abroad. Areas of comparative scholarship include university management, leader succession in higher education, and governance of research universities. Across his career, Thompson has held leadership roles in academic operations, academic affairs, and university advancement.
