Justin B. Thompson

Justin Thompson serves as senior associate dean and chief operating officer. Administrative functions he oversees include the school's human resources, budget, finance, financial aid, clinical operations, fundraising, communications, marketing, facilities, policy, planning, safety, faculty annual reporting, compensation, and information technology.

Thompson holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Education Leadership, Foundations and Policy. Recent teaching assignments include graduate courses in management, planning, budget, finance, and history of higher education. Thompson engages in professional development activities with international higher education leaders, both in Charlottesville and abroad. Areas of comparative scholarship include university management, leader succession in higher education, and governance of research universities. Across his career, Thompson has held leadership roles in academic operations, academic affairs, and university advancement.
