A Letter from the Dean

Welcome to the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia! Whether you are a future student, a community member, or simply curious about who we are and what we do, I'm so glad you're here.  

At UVA EHD, we are united by a mission: to transform education and health outcomes through groundbreaking research, innovative teaching, and meaningful community engagement. What brings us together across disciplines and roles is a shared commitment to realizing human potential. We believe that every person has the capacity to learn, grow, and thrive with the right opportunities and support. In times of rapid change and uncertainty, that belief both anchors and inspires us.

Our faculty, students, staff, and partners are passionate about addressing society’s most urgent challenges — from closing opportunity gaps in education to improving health and wellness across the lifespan. What makes our research distinctive is its deep connection to real-world problems and people. Our scholarship advances knowledge while creating practical solutions that strengthen individuals, families, schools, and communities here in Virginia and around the world.

As one of the nation’s leading schools of education and human development, we prepare students to excel in their chosen fields through rigorous academics, experiential learning, and close collaboration with faculty mentors.
