Troy Buer

Troy Buer, Ph.D., serves as the chief of staff to Dean Rowley. He provides the dean with professional support and thought partnership to advance EHD and University strategic priorities. He assumes a wide variety of administrative duties and works in close collaboration with colleagues on the dean’s leadership team on various special projects and initiatives. Buer previously served in the UVA School of Medicine as director of faculty development and special projects and as an assistant dean for medical education support.

A Minnesota native, Buer earned a doctorate in higher education from UVA’s School of Education and Human Development and received the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award. He also received the Johnnie E. Merritt Graduate Fellowship and the Jay L. Chronister Award in Higher Education. Outside his professional commitments, Buer has been actively engaged with the community having provided volunteer service to the UVA SOM Medical Alumni Association, the Western Albemarle High School Mountain Biking team, the Virginia Basketball Academy, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and various community youth programs.
