We study the effect of teacher-student phone calls in Kenya when schools were closed. Schools were randomly assigned for 3rd, 5th and 6th graders to receive one of two versions of a 7-week weekly math intervention—5-minute accountability checks or 15-minute mini-tutoring sessions—or to the control group.

Divisions had to consider whether to provide some or all students with a personal computing device, whether and how to connect students to the internet, and whether to provide remote technological support to students and staff.

Divisions had to consider how students would access curriculum when not in the school building, how teachers would provide instruction to remote students, and whether teachers would be responsible for teaching students both in-person and remotely.

This report uses administrative data to track the experiences of over 1000 child care teachers who began working towards the ECAC between 2016 and 2018.
