Luke Fernando Bastiaansen

Biography
Luke Bastiaansen is a Ph.D. student in the educational psychology-applied developmental science program. He earned his M.S.Ed. in urban teaching from the University of Pennsylvania. Before beginning his doctoral studies, Bastiaansen taught eighth-grade english language arts in North Philadelphia and downtown Charleston, South Carolina. His research examines Black students' experiences within educational systems, with a focus on structural inequities and their impact on development. Bastiaansen conceptualizes his research and evaluation work through equity-centered, asset-based approaches.
