What We Do
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has engaged with a research team based at the University of Virginia (UVA) to conduct a Maryland Child Care Workforce Survey. Results from the survey will help MSDE gain insights into the early childhood workforce during a period of pandemic recovery. The questions will focus on topics such as financial wellbeing, compensation, and job satisfaction and retention.

Here are some key details about the Maryland Child Care Workforce Survey:
- What? A 15-minute online survey designed by the University of Virginia
- Who? Early childhood educators working more than 20 hours per week in a licensed MSDE child care facility, working directly with children aged birth to 5 (prior to kindergarten)
- How? Invitations will be sent to eligible early childhood educators via email or text. That email will contain a unique link for you to take the survey.
- Look Out For: The subject of the email will be “Research Study Opportunity: 15-Minute Survey for MSDE Early Educators with Thank You For Your Time." The email will come from Alexis Washington ([email protected]).
- To Thank Early Educators for Participating: Invitees who complete the survey will instantly receive a $25 cash card via email. In addition to the guaranteed $25, those who complete the survey will also be entered into a lottery to win an additional $50 incentive. About 1 in every 50 survey respondents will win $50.
- Do I Have to Participate? No. Participation is voluntary.
