Amanda Nguyen, a research assistant professor at the UVA School of Education and Human Development, has been awarded the 2022 Translation Science Award from the Society for Prevention Research.

The award is given to an individual or a team of individuals in recognition for contributions to advancing the field of prevention science in the area of translational research. Nguyen’s research focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating mental and behavioral health interventions for youth in culturally diverse and underserved settings, including in the rural US.

New work by Nguyen was also recently funded by the UVA Center for Global Inquiry & Innovation. This $7500 Faculty Global Research with Undergraduates Grant is focused on advancing a global mental health research partnership in Cambodia.

This newly funded work will partner a UVA global health student with a Cambodian community mental health team to develop a research project focused on family and community supports for people with severe mental illness in Cambodia.
