Marie Cushing

Before joining the team at UVA, Marie Cushing served for a decade as an educator in north Memphis, leading classrooms with love, humor, and educational expertise. In her role as a classroom teacher, she cultivated a deep working understanding of elementary literacy instruction which included creating reading comprehension and phonemic awareness curriculum structures that were adopted across her districts. She is using these skills to support measures and materials that help teacher provide research-based reading instruction.

Marie lives in Memphis with her husband and two cats.
