Biography
Before joining the team at UVA, Marie Cushing served for a decade as an educator in north Memphis, leading classrooms with love, humor, and educational expertise. In her role as a classroom teacher, she cultivated a deep working understanding of lower elementary literacy instruction which included developing reading comprehension and phonemic awareness curriculum structures adopted across the district. Her foundational literacy expertise includes certification in Orton-Gillingham phonics instruction and Literacy Footprints guided reading. Cushing lives in Memphis with her husband.
