Biography

Kyra Parker received her bachelor's degree in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience with a minor in psychology from Virginia Tech in 2020. During her undergraduate career, Parker worked in social and clinical psychology labs and volunteered at a crisis hotline in Blacksburg, VA. Following graduation, she served with Reading Partners as an AmeriCorps Distance Tutoring Coordinator at an elementary school in Washington, DC.

Her research interests are informed by her lived experience and center around supporting families of color, uncovering bias, and supporting teacher-family and teacher-child relationships to reduce exclusionary discipline in early childhood education programs.

In the fall of 2021, Parker began her graduate studies in the clinical and school psychology program under the mentorship of Amanda Williford.
