Angel McCray works with the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) team as an outreach and communication specialist. Prior to this role, McCray spent 20 years teaching in kindergarten and first grade classrooms throughout the southeastern United States. Most recently, she was a certified K-12 reading specialist in North Carolina where she served as a reading interventionist, school-wide Title I and Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) coordinator, as well as parent and family engagement coordinator. She has served as a district collaborative team member for writing reading intervention protocols for all elementary classroom teachers, facilitator for school wide leadership committees, as well as a teacher trainer in areas such as data interpretation and classroom intervention implementation. McCray has collaborated with practicum students and student teachers from various colleges throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee and is a member of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Throughout her teaching career, she has received various awards including school and district level Teacher of the Year.
