About This Program

The fully-online and asynchronous graduate certificate in intercollegiate athletics administration offers a strong foundation for students interested in starting a career in intercollegiate athletics administration at the college level in settings such as community colleges and both public and private four-year institutions. It also serves as a professional development opportunity for individuals already working in college athletics who wish to deepen their knowledge and advance their careers.

Please note that while this certificate is fully online, if you take these courses as an on-Grounds M.Ed. in student affairs practice in higher education student, you will be charged the on-Grounds tuition rate.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements that apply specifically to this program are listed below:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university;
  • A current resume or CV;
  • A short personal statement detailing the ways in which the program will help the applicant to meet their professional goals;
  • An academic writing sample; and
  • Two letters of recommendation from professionals who can attest to your promise as a graduate student. Those who are employed should provide a reference from at least one direct supervisor.

Students may transfer in up to three (3) credits of equivalent graduate coursework, provided the course(s) were taken at UVA; they attained a minimum of a B- in the course; and the coursework is no older than five (5) years at the completion of the certificate coursework. Course transfers will be approved by the program director.
