Yin Gu

Yin Gu has worked in higher education settings for over 14 years and has a deep passion for early childhood research. She began her career teaching and advising undergraduate students, where she saw firsthand how early experiences shape later learning and development. This led her to focus on applied early childhood research, where timely data and support can have a lasting impact.

In her current role as a research data specialist, Yin supports statewide early childhood initiatives in Virginia by working with large-scale datasets, developing essential data documentations, and delivering actionable reports for stakeholders and policymakers. She specializes in RMarkdown-based reporting systems and works fluently with tools such as Qualtrics, Tableau, SSRS, and Power BI. She is also passionate about building efficient, transparent workflows and thoughtfully integrates the use of generative A.I. tools into her work.

Outside of work, Yin enjoys exploring and applying data in everyday life—experimenting in the kitchen, planning and tracking workouts, and developing gardening plans using weather and plant data. Guided by curiosity, she sees data as a way to better understand the world, ask meaningful questions, and make everyday decisions with greater intention.
