Shené V. Owens is a student, educator, and mentor. In the work that she does every day as a higher education professional, she focuses on creating an environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all students.
When she’s not at work, she is extremely active in her communities both in Virginia and NY/NJ, serving as a mentor to teens and young adults, leading self-care and/or self-esteem workshops, participating in community service efforts, and raising awareness for various causes. She lives by the West African term “Sankofa,” which teaches us that we should reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward.
