Sanford S. Williams

Sanford S. Williams is the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Deputy General Counsel at Somos, and Lecturer of Law at UCLA Law School. Previously, he worked for 25 years at the FCC, most recently as Deputy Chief of Staff for the agency. Williams started his career as an attorney for Womble, Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, and taught at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Georgia State Bar.

Williams was elected to the Manassas City, Virginia School Board in 2010 and served on the board for eleven years, and as chair from 2018-2021. Williams was the first African-American Chairman of the Manassas City School Board. Williams serves on numerous Boards and Committees including UNITE-LA, AltaMed and the UVA Club of Los Angeles.

Williams graduated from Newark Academy in New Jersey in 1983 and then enrolled at Cornell University at the age of 15. While in law school at UVA, he was a member of the Virginia Law Review.

Williams is married to Dr. Anastasia Williams (UVA Med '1998), and they have three children, Kiara Imani Williams, Esq. (UVA '11, UVA Law '15), Dr. Sanford J.S. Williams (UVA ‘13), and Nia CC Williams (UVA ‘21).
