Biography

Jeffrey B. Taylor, PT, PhD, DPT, CSCS, is Professor and Founding Program Director leading the development of a proposed Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at UVA. Taylor earned his PhD in Kinesiology with a concentration in Applied Neuromechanics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Duke University, and his bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware.

Before joining UVA, Taylor served as Chair and Program Director of the Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University, where he led program growth, faculty development, and strategic initiatives while maintaining active teaching, clinical, and research responsibilities. He previously held leadership positions at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and has extensive experience in outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine practice.

Taylor's research focuses on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport decision-making, particularly among physically active populations. His scholarship examines the biomechanical, neuromuscular, and workload-related factors that influence lower-extremity injury risk and recovery, with particular emphasis on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and reconstruction. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, presented his work nationally and internationally, and currently serves as Research Chair for APTA Orthopaedics.

A dedicated educator and mentor, Taylor is committed to preparing the next generation of physical therapists through evidence-based education, clinical excellence, and meaningful student engagement. His work integrates research, clinical practice, and professional education to improve patient outcomes and advance the physical therapy profession.
