Biography

Lyle Davis received her doctorate from Northwestern University in Communication Sciences and Disorders in Learning Disabilities and Language and Cognition. She holds a M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Virginia, and holds a B.S. degree from Vanderbilt University in Special Education and Cognitive Studies.

Most of Davis’ studies pertain to children’s language and literacy development within clinical and classroom-based contexts. Before focusing on diagnostics, test/curriculum development, and remediation, her research targeted early literacy development, specifically relationships across domains of reading and spelling.

Davis teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in language and literacy development, educational psychology, and assessment. Additionally, she has designed training materials, computer-based evaluation tools, and content for a major educational software company.

At present Davis is the Director of LHD Consulting, an educational consulting company in Nashville,Tennessee. She works closely with the Currey Ingram Academy and continues work with the Literacy Institute through Memphis Teacher Residency (an organization dedicated to building community resources in underserved areas and underscoring educational access as one of the fundamental issues in pursuing social justice across communities). Davis serves as an accreditation evaluator for the International Dyslexia Association and a consultant for various public and independent schools across the Mid-South. Lyle and her husband, Ted, live in Nashville and have three children. Their middle child, Carrington, is a fourth year.
