Biography

Originally from Newport News, Virginia, Kari Hill Couling is a UVA alumna. She began her teaching career as a fourth-grade teacher in Darien, Connecticut. She moved to California in 2001 and taught kindergarten before accepting the role of learning specialist for K-8 at St. Joseph's School of the Sacred Heart in Atherton.

She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at St. Anne’s-Belfield School and as a volunteer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia. Couling and her husband Kent (COMM '97) have three children, two at UVA and one at St. Anne’s-Belfield, and reside in Charlottesville. Kent Couling was a managing director at King Street Capital in Charlottesville after a career as an executive director at Morgan Stanley. He serves as chair of the endowment committee for the United Way of Greater Charlottesville.
