Gabe Planas

Gabe Planas serves as the lab manager at the UVA Innovation Hub at Charlottesville Middle School, where he collaborates with teachers to design and teach engaging, relevant, computationally rich, and standards-aligned Project Based Learning experiences for every 7th grade student. During the soft launch of the Innovation Hub (2024-2025 school year), Planas has primarily worked with the 7th grade Life Science team, but is excited to broaden the Innovations Hub's reach to other subject areas.

For the past decade, Planas worked in Albemarle County Schools, where he taught science, AVID Elective, and Spanish at Jouett (Journey) Middle School, and served as an instructional coach in the secondary schools. When he is not in the classroom, Planas can be found enjoying or performing live jazz around Charlottesville, tending to his bees, or hiking with his wife and two dogs.
