  • Board Member, School of Education and Human Development Foundation

Biography

A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Anne Constant attended Duke University and earned her master’s degree English education from the School of Education and Human Development. She began her teaching career in Virginia Beach and taught AP and regular English classes at Kempsville High School. Her EHD training served her well, and at age 26 with two years of teaching experience she was promoted to curriculum specialist in English for the entire school division. She returned to EHD for a doctorate degree and served as a graduate teaching fellow. She worked part-time with the Bureau of Educational Research, where she did curriculum research and worked with state administrators in Richmond.

Constant’s career path included educational writing, evaluation, curriculum development, teacher professional development, and then business management consulting. Her employers ranged from the National Education Association to the National Association of Children’s Hospitals to Ernst and Young. The common thread throughout her career is her EHD education—the Socratic method of questioning to stimulate critical thinking, the leadership skills from her administration and supervision courses, the curriculum training, the analytic perspective of the research. All these skills were at her disposal as her professional interests and opportunities evolved.

Constant’s last professional turn before retiring was operating a successful Jazzercise Center in Falls Church, which she recently sold. She continues to teach Jazzercise and loves biking and traveling. She does animal rescue volunteering, political fundraising, and servs on non-profit boards including the National Capital Area Alzheimer’s Association.
