Maelee Hearington

Maelee is a Youth and Social Innovation and Religious Studies double-major from Chester, Virginia. She's also working toward her Master of Teaching in Elementary Education.

The School of Education and Human Development experience is dynamic, interdisciplinary, and holistic. It has been an honor to work closely with passionate faculty and bright-minded students to find new and invigorating ways to give back to the community, delve into our society’s culture, and learn about our world.

On Grounds, I am an active member of Catholic Hoos (leading a small group, participating in Bible studies, and attending retreats) and I am part of an EdPolicyWorks research team investigating Pre-K programming in Louisiana and Virginia under professor Daphna Bassok. I'm also on the Fourth Year Trustees Wellness Committee – I've been a part of council since second year, and each year I work with dedicated students in the class of 2022 to create and facilitate experiences for our class to engage with the broader Charlottesville community while prioritizing physical and mental health.

I love finding new creative outlets: painting, drawing, knitting, baking, whatever I can learn. I enjoy the outdoors and particularly love sunrise and sunset hikes. I also spend my time near the water whenever I can. I love hiking, fishing, swimming, and hanging with friends on the Lawn!

After graduation, I hope to become a Catholic School teacher at Charlottesville Catholic School to combine my passion for my faith with my passion for educating and engaging with youth.
