Cindy Do

Cindy is an Elementary Education major with a minor in Psychology from Alexandria, VA.

My experience in the School of Education and Human Development has been incredible. Here, I feel so heard and supported by all the wonderful faculty and staff who not only care so much about the field but also us students. I have truly enjoyed every single one of my classes and am so appreciative for the experiences I have lived so far. I am looking forward to meeting even more people within the School of Education and Human Development and know that I will be inspired by them all.

I love the community I found within the Education School. I feel that I am being supported throughout my journey and appreciate the passion that everyone has in the school. I love the bonds and connections I've made through the Education School and know that it is the people here that will be the highlight of my time at UVA. The community I have found here stands out the most to me in the best way possible.

Outside of class, I am a part of University Program Council (UPC) Arts & Enrichment Committee where I help plan university-wide events with a focus on the arts and creative culture at UVA. I have also been a tutor at The McGuffey Reading Center since my second year where I assist young students in their reading and literacy. I am a gym attendant at Slaughter Recreation Center and have volunteered in child care through Madison House. I am also a peer advocate for first-generation, first-year college students through UVA's First-Gen Peer Mentoring Network program where I support these students during their transition into college life.

I love being outside, especially when it is warm out. I love to practice self care, whether that looks like making sure I get enough sleep, going on a walk/run, reading for leisure, watching a movie, or doing a face mask! I also love to try new food places when I have the time to and explore new study places in the area (especially coffee shops!). I love spending time with my friends and family, no matter what it is we are doing, and listening to music!

After graduation, I plan to teach elementary school while also pursing my master's in education in potentially Reading Education in order to become a Reading Specialist some day. I am excited to be in the field and utilize all I have learned from the Education School. I have dreams to continue my own educational journey while also getting the chance to make an impact on someone else's. Regardless of the exact position I am in the future, I will know that it is the Education School that helped me get there.
