Sooyeon Byun is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Education Leadership, Foundations, and Policy. Her research focuses on the protective factors for children’s positive social and emotional development in early care and education (ECE) settings, with particular interests in understanding the roles of educators' well-being and work environment, and intervention strategies promoting children’s and teachers’ well-being. Sooyeon is also interested in cross-national comparisons of ECE educators' well-being and its associations with educators' practice and child outcomes. Previously, she worked as an evaluation consultant for a nationwide civic education program. She is also a founding director of an educational nonprofit organization in South Korea. She holds a doctoral degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University, and master's degrees in Child Development and in Education.
