Latino Siblings School Transition Project
What We Do
With this study, we aim to understand the role of multiple ecological contexts—primarily the family and school environments—in supporting the linguistic and literacy development of siblings whose main language at home is Spanish for children attending a bilingual immersion program.
The study would contribute understanding of 1) the instructional supports in the home and school contexts that support the development of older, Spanish speaking, siblings, 2) the extent to which older siblings bring elements of their instructional environment into the home environment, and vice versa, and 3) to examine how younger siblings transition to a bilingual emergent school context with the support of older siblings, parents, and teachers.
