Each year UVA's School of Education and Human Development grants awards, scholarships, and fellowships to support the studies of UVA EHD students. In 2024, awards given to more than 250 individual students totaled more than $1.2 million.

EHD honored those students and celebrated their accomplishments in a ceremony held on Grounds on Friday, October 4.

“At UVA EHD, we are committed to making education more accessible by reducing financial barriers for our students,” said Dean Stephanie Rowley. “These students have demonstrated extraordinary potential to lead and innovate in education and human development, and we are proud to support them with awards that help them reach their academic and professional goals.”

Unlike student loans, grant funding does not have to be repaid, helping alleviate the financial burden of higher education and allowing students to fully immerse themselves in their studies. Award and scholarship recipients are nominated by program faculty and selected by departments and programs.

This year, UVA EHD also launched the Tomorrow’s Teachers Fund, which provides crucial tuition assistance of up to $30,000 for students with demonstrated financial need. Additional funding and financial support are available to all UVA students through UVA Student Financial Services.

Samuel Diemer, a master’s student who plans to become a social studies teacher, said he was deeply honored and grateful to be a recipient of the Odelia Moore scholarship. “I chose to become a teacher because I have always had a passion for learning and a desire to inspire that same passion in others,” he said. “This award is more than just financial support; it is a powerful affirmation of confidence in my potential and future.”

Support from generous donors to UVA EHD makes these awards possible. For more information, including a list of available awards, eligibility, and how to apply, visit the scholarships and awards web page.
