Facilitating Career Development Workshop
Earn your Facilitating Career Development Certificate to use toward obtaining the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Credential.
The Facilitating Career Development Workshop provides professional counseling and career development training. Participants receive training on how to assist their own clients in the fundamentals of not only career counseling, but personal counseling as well such as helping skills with a focus on wellness, social justice, and advocacy. Our philosophy is that career and personal development are interdependent and multifaceted. Those assisting clients with career development needs should also be equipped to assist with overall life planning based on the principles, skills and theories of counseling.
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Facilitating Career Development Certificate which may be used toward a credential from the Center for Credentialing in Education and/or the National Career Development Association (NCDA). Participants can expect to learn the 12 competencies designated by the NCDA in this workshop with a focus on listening skills, diversity, assessments, and theories.
Specifically, participants in this workshop will:
- Practice active listening skills with peers in counseling lab.
- Connect theory to practice with case studies and self-evaluation.
- Learn current trends and practices in workforce development and K-12 career development.
- Explore and evaluate their own professional goals as part of learning theories, assessments and best practices.
This training is led by Amanda Flora, Ph.D, credentialed GCDF and certified CDF instructor. Professor Flora is currently the president of the Virginia Career Development Association and a participant in the National Career Development Association’s Leadership Academy. She has taught career counseling online and traditionally for over 5 years and has 8 years’ experience providing career development services to adults and college students.
“I was looking for a program to help me gain more confidence and knowledge in career development and I’m so glad I chose this one. I really enjoyed taking the class through the PCDC for its location and its access to the practice room--practicing and observing facilitation was such a useful tool. I also am glad I took this course from Amanda Flora. I learned a lot from her in this course and she has truly become a mentor to me as I grow in the field of career development.”
