Grad student Olivia Burke will be sharing some research under development about "Exploring Youth Participatory Approaches in Education Measurement Development & Validation."
Description: This WIP presentation explores how youth participatory approaches, like Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), can be leveraged as a powerful tool for developing and validating adolescent-specific measurement tools. I will discuss how engaging youth in the development and validation of measurement instruments has potential to improve the cultural and contextual relevance of measurement tools, while fostering youth strengths such as leadership, agency, and inquiry skills. I will conclude by presenting a project proposal for the application of youth participatory measurement development in a school setting, where students will have an opportunity to explore issues they care about, develop problem-solving skills, and build connections within/between their school and communities.
