ODEI Affinities ON-GROUNDS Gathering - September
Located in Holloway Hall / Student Event
Starting in September, The Office of DEI is launching a monthly student program to support any and all students who identify across the intersectional spectrum of affinities and are looking for a space to create solidarity amongst fellow EHD students. On the 3rd Thursday of each month, we will hold an On-Grounds and Virtual Gathering (with light refreshments served On-Grounds), where we’ll build community with one another, invite speakers to share about a thematic topic, and offer opportunities for socioprofessional growth. Each month’s theme will focus on (1) affinity expression (sexual identity, gender identity, race, ethnicity, etc., first-generation, socioeconomic background, religious identity, etc.), as each of us engages in learning and sharing in a space of cultivated mutual respect. The goal is for students to feel supported in their minoritized identities within EHD and to create connections with others who may have had parallel or similar experiences in educational contexts, on and off Grounds.
For our first Affinities gathering, we’ll be gathering around the theme of Latinx identities and experiences in Charlottesville and beyond, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (which starts on September 15th). Join us if you’re curious, craving community, and coming to connect! Please reach out to [email protected] with questions.
