John White has served as Louisiana’s State Superintendent of Education since 2012. He launched Louisiana Believes, the state’s comprehensive education plan that includes nationally recognized initiatives to unify the state’s early childhood system, modernize curriculum, and more. After receiving his B.A. in English with distinction from the University of Virginia and starting his career as an English teacher, he went on to earn a master’s in Public Administration from New York University and hold numerous educational leadership positions. Prior to being named State Superintendent, he served as Deputy Chancellor for the New York City Department of Education and Executive Director of Teach For America – Chicago and Teach For America – New Jersey. He also serves as chairman of the independent non-profit advocacy organization Chiefs for Change, co-founder and chairman of Propel America, and Academic Visitor to the John F.
