Join Dean Rowley, faculty, staff, and students to kick-off the Common Read for the 23/24 academic year! On Monday, August 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. we will gather in Holloway Hall (Bavaro 116) to discuss our selected book, “The Body is not an Apology”. Be prepared to engage in activities focused on the themes of the book and re-energize with afternoon beverages and snacks. Attendees are not expected to have read the book before this event – we even have limited copies to give away if you prefer a hard copy. For those interested in an electronic copy, you can access it through UVA Library’s ProQuest Ebook Central. This is a can’t miss event – register today!
About the Book
“World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength. As we awaken to our own indoctrinated body shame, we feel inspired to awaken others and to interrupt the systems that perpetuate body shame and oppression against all bodies. When we act from this truth on a global scale, we usher in the transformative opportunity of radical self-love, which is the opportunity for a more just, equitable, and compassionate world--for us all.”
