Autism Works-in-Progress: Nurturing the epigenetic architecture underlying social development

Aug 17, 2021 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Dr. Kathleen Krol will introduce a STAR Pilot Award-funded project in which she, together with PI Dr. Jessica Connelly, is exploring the endogenous oxytocin system across the first five months of infancy and the experiential factors that may impact its development. In this study of mother-infant dyads, wearable Bluetooth and audio-recording devices are worn to track proximity and vocalizations in conjunction with weekly saliva samples in an effort to explore the molecular mechanisms by which nature and nurture interact to impact social development.
