The Reading RULES Kindergarten Project
The Reading RULES Kindergarten project aims to develop and pilot test an early literacy instructional intervention program (Reading RULES for Kindergarten) designed to improve literacy outcomes kindergarteners at risk for later reading difficulties. While this project is currently in its final year and only includes a relatively small sample of teachers (n = 20) and students (n = 100), there could be opportunities to develop research questions and conduct secondary data analyses related to intervention effects for multilingual students. We will also conduct three video-recorded observations in each of ~20 classrooms in Houston-area schools; there could be opportunities to code these videos for variables of interest to an EL-VEST fellow and to look at associations between these variables and student gains across the school year. RRK work at the UVA site is led by Colby Hall.
