The Language Programs for Latinx Students Project

The Language Programs for Latinx Students Project uses state-wide data to examine the academic outcomes of all Latinx students attending a variety of language programs in the state of Utah, including dual language immersion (DLI), sheltered instruction, and English as a second language (ESL). EL-VEST fellows will have the opportunity to work with state-level longitudinal data and employ quasi-experimental data analytic approaches to examine questions of policy relevance for Latinx students. Fellows will also have opportunities to collaborate on research papers and grant writing related to the project and to contribute to expanding state-level partnerships. The project is led by Natalia Palacios in collaboration with Drs. Natalie Bohlmann (Montana State University-Billings) and Bethany Bell (University of Virginia).
