The HOGAR Research Project


Judy Paulick and Natalia Palacios' HOGAR (Home visits Grounded in Assets-framed Relationships) research project is focused on the funds of knowledge and community cultural wealth in the homes and lives of culturally and linguistically marginalized elementary school children. We will continue to collect data during the 2022-23 school year, observing teachers' relationship-building home visits with multilingual families, conducting interviews and focus groups with families, and working with teachers to translate what they learn from those visits into culturally sustaining teaching. This project offers opportunities for future EL-VEST fellows to engage with qualitative data related to families and teachers serving ELs. We will also be engaging in grant writing for future, mixed-methods studies that will scale up our current work.
