Our research centers are robust communities of scholarship where partnerships are welcomed, discoveries are made, ideas are tested and new knowledge is unleashed.

The UVA School of Education and Human Development boasts a remarkable portfolio of work – scholarship that is alive and relevant to the everyday work of professionals in education and human development. Our research drives inquiry, discovery and impact.

Here, students join eminent research faculty, tackling some of our society’s toughest challenges in partnership with practitioners and clinicians in the field. Together, we create new knowledge that is making an impact in our communities here in Virginia and around the world.

Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning

Founded in 2006, CASTL is an interdisciplinary research center that aims to advance the quality of teaching and learning, from infancy to higher education. Our research initiatives span the globe and our faculty are leading the way to promote meaningful changes in education.

The Center for Race and Public Education in the South (CRPES) conducts and supports research and scholarship on a variety of issues that lie at the intersection of race, education, and schooling in the southern United States.
