Comparative Effectiveness of Intervention Approaches for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
The purpose of this research project is to examine the effectiveness of two popular intervention programs to teach young children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) speech-language skills. The programs differ in that ABA is a highly structured approach that is clinician-directed. Whereas DIR is child-directed; it is less structured and includes more playtime in place of direct instruction. Based upon pre- and post-test results, what are the differences in treatment outcomes for children with an ASD who receive Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and those who receive Developmental, Individual-difference, Relationship-based (DIR) intervention?
