Catalina Esguerra is the Programs Manager for the School of Education & Human Development’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Together with Dean Berry, she will be working to support the vision of this office to create and sustain an inclusive and equitable environment at the EHD through diverse recruitment efforts, integration of DEI into the school’s core mission, and enhanced programming for faculty, staff, and students. As a member of the Dean’s Office, she will provide administrative support and collaboration with other support staff.
As an educator, Catalina is dedicated to the values of diversity and inclusion. Prior to joining EHD, she worked at the Miller School of Albemarle—where she taught Spanish and served as the school’s first Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In this role, she worked in a variety of areas—ranging from curriculum, residence life, and professional development—to design and support initiatives aimed at making the Miller School a more inclusive and equitable teaching and learning environment. While at the University of Michigan, she worked as a success coach for first-generation students of color in the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives and completed the Rackham Graduate’s School Professional Development Certificate in DEI.
