Important Information for Off-Grounds & Online Students

If you have not yet created or have lost, forgotten, or simply wish to reset your existing SIS password, you may create or reset it at this link.
After creating your password, you will have access to the University’s Student Information System (SIS) and to the University’s web platform for online classes.
If you attended the University at any time in the past, both your SIS identification number and your password will remain the same.
Create or Reset your password -
You may use both the “Class Search” function (for currently offered courses) and the Course Catalogue (a comprehensive list of University courses) using the links at the top right of this web page.
No login or password is necessary to access these functions.
Search for classes -
Once the self-registration period for a term has opened, you may use the link at left to log into SIS and enroll in courses.

Self-register for classes -
You’ll need to set up your University e-mail account in order to access your course website, and to receive notifications. After set-up, you may forward your university e-mail to another account if you prefer.
Create your primary University e-mail account -
A digital certificate installed on your computer is like an ID card you can use to identify yourself to websites, using NetBadge.
Logging into NetBadge with the digital certificate option is more secure than using your UVA computing ID and password.
Instructions for installing the certificate, and assistance via e-mail or live-chat, are available at the link at left.

If you are unable to drop or withdraw from a course using SIS, please submit this form (link at left).
Your registration for a course commits you to paying of the charges associated with enrollment (tuition and fees). You will not be automatically dropped from a course due to a lack of attendance/participation.

Course resources are usually posted on a designated web site, via the Canvas platform, including the syllabus, list of text books, and information for contacting your instructor.

The transcript is a record of all academic work attempted at the University. It is not possible to segregate individual courses or semesters or to print only undergraduate or graduate work.
There is no fee to order a transcript online, by mail, or in person.

Please submit this form for legal name changes to your SIS record; for changes to address, phone number, emergency contacts, etc., may be made directly in SIS (link at left).
Make changes to your personal information on your student record (address/name/contact info) -
Your advisor’s name will appear on your student record.
If you are a degree- or certificate-seeking student, an advisor will be assigned to you within your department.
If you are a non-degree student, you will be assigned a default advisor from whom you may request a departmental advisor specific to your goals and area of interest.
