Foundation Scholarships and Awards

Electronic Application Form

Students must complete an electronic application form via AcademicWorks and indicate the award/scholarship(s) for which they would like to be considered. The application period starts in mid-November and ends in early January.

A hard copy of what is included in the application form, is linked here for your reference as you are preparing application materials.

Please note: The form requires students to provide the name and email address of a UVA employee (e.g., faculty, staff, supervisor) who has agreed to write a recommendation for the student should the award/scholarship require one. Students should reach out to their desired recommender before submitting this form. See recommendation guidelines tab for more information.

Recommendation Guidelines

A recommendation must be submitted on behalf of the student by a UVA faculty or staff member for most awards*. The recommendation should speak to the merits of the student and specifically address, in detail, how the student meets the criteria for the award/scholarship(s). Recommendations weigh heavily in the scholarship/award decision process.

Upon submitting the application form, an email from “University of Virginia Scholarships” will be sent to the recommender’s email address indicated in the form. The email includes a link that will allow them to complete their recommendation. Bi-weekly reminders will be sent to the recommender until the recommendation is submitted.

*Recommendations are not required for the Asa B. Johnson Scholarship, Snyder Crumpacker Graduate Fellowship, Dr. R. Stevens Nichols Endowed Scholarship, Brenda Holliday Lloyd Award, and Jessie C. Carpenter Award.

EDLF Awards

All awards, scholarships, and fellowships from the Department of Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Policy require faculty nomination. If you would like to be nominated for a departmental or school honor, please speak with your faculty advisor.

Please note that students who are nominated by a faculty member to receive an award, scholarship, or fellowship may be asked to complete a form with their academic honors, co-curricular activities, and publications.

Some scholarships/fellowships are restricted to students in specific programs within the Human Services Department.

All awards, scholarships, and fellowships from the Department of Human Services require faculty nomination. If you would like to be nominated for a departmental or school honor, please speak with your faculty advisor. All nominations are due by January 22 (funds to be awarded the following academic year).
