Master of Teaching - Foreign Language

We are not accepting application for the Foreign Language program for summer 2021. The School of Education and Human Development offers a post-graduate program in English as a Second Language for students interested in language instruction.
The School of Education and Human Development is proud to offer a Master of Teaching (M.T.) degree with licensure and endorsement in Foreign Language with an emphasis in French, German, Spanish, or Latin (grades PreK-12). This is a post-graduate program for those who have already completed an undergraduate degree.

Summer (early June through August)
- Orientation: June 5, 2020

- EDIS 5800: Understanding Educational Contexts
- EDLF 5011: Adolescent Learning and Development*
- EDIS 5422: Cross-Cultural Education for Diverse Learners
- EDIS 5020: Foundations of Learning and Teaching
- EDIS 5840: Clinical Experience in Adolescent Education
*UVA undergrads applying to the program are encouraged to take EDLF 5011 during the fall of 3rd or 4th year if their schedules allow. Students from other undergraduate institutions may be able to substitute learning and development coursework for this requirement. Contact Jillian McGraw to verify course substitutions.

- Pass the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment
- Pass the Praxis World Language exam for your endorsement area:
- Complete the Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding for Educators module
- Complete the VDOE Dyslexia Awareness module
- Provide evidence of hands-on training in CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Complete the Instructional Technology modules (information will be provided during the program)
Fall (August through December)

As a member of the State Authorizations Reciprocity Agreement, the University of Virginia (UVA) is authorized to provide curriculum in a distance learning environment to students located in all states in the United States except for California. (34 CFR 668.43(a)(6)& 34 CFR 668.72(n)).
Upon completion of the Master of Teaching program at the UVA School of Education and Human Development, graduates may be eligible for initial professional licensure in another U.S. state by applying to the licensing board or agency in that state. Please visit the University’s state authorization web pages to make an informed decision regarding which states’ educational requirements for initial licensure are met by this program. (668.43(a)(5) (v)(A) - (C))
Enrolled students who change their current (or mailing) address to a state other than Virginia should update this information immediately in the Student Information System as it may impact their ability to complete internship, practicum, or clinical hours, use Title IV funds, or meet licensure or certification requirements in the new state. (34 CFR 668.402).
