Raised in upstate New York, Stephanie Walsh Tharp completed her bachelor of arts degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in exercise science. Prior to returning to graduate school, she held positions at corporations in North Carolina and Virginia. In 2007, she received her master of teaching degree at the University of Virginia where she was awarded the Martha Nelson Bradley Fellowship. Tharp has taught in both private and public schools; and has coached soccer and field hockey, following her field hockey career at UNC. Stephanie has an extensive background with autism and current experiences with the STAR Initiative, which have helped families navigate the various medical and educational avenues available for children and adults with autism. She has lived in Charlottesville since 2000, and enjoys “keeping up” with her three sons, two dogs, and husband.
