Biography

Stephanie Walsh Tharp completed her bachelor of arts degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in exercise science. Prior to returning to graduate school, she held positions at corporations in North Carolina and Virginia. In 2007, she received her master of teaching degree at the University of Virginia where she was awarded the Martha Nelson Bradley Fellowship.

Tharp has taught in both private and public schools and has coached soccer and field hockey. She is a mom of three boys, and the eldest was diagnosed with autism at UVA in 2005. After several years of navigating the various medical and educational avenues available for children with autism, Tharp e looks forward to helping families throughout Virginia and beyond as a family navigator for the Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) initiative.
