Jennie K. Grammer

Jennie Grammer's research focuses on developmental changes in children’s cognition, including executive functions and cognitive control. She draws on methods from psychology, education, and cognitive neuroscience to examine children’s cognitive development and characterize instructional factors that contribute to this growth. The goal of this research is to provide evidence that teachers can use to develop more equitable spaces and opportunities for the students in the classrooms. Her current projects are focused on three main questions: (1) How can we characterize brain and behavioral changes in the cognitive skills that support learning? (2) What factors (e.g., emotion regulation, motivation, ADHD, and anxiety) influence children’s use of cognitive skills in the classroom? and (3) What is the impact of school experiences on cognitive development?

Before joining the faculty at the University of Virginia, she was an Associate Professor of Education at the University of California, Los Angeles.
