Biography
Hannah Carney is an educator, writer, and curriculum developer with more than 15 years of experience engaging diverse audiences and facilitating learning. Having taught English language learners in Texas and English as a learned language in South Korea and Peru, Carney is passionate about supporting all students as they learn to read, and read to learn.
As a curriculum developer with classroom teaching experience, Carney has worked with public school districts as well as nonprofits to create high-quality social studies and English language arts curriculum materials. Carney is committed to the disciplinary nature of learning. Drawing on her work as an editor and writer for broad audiences, she teaches students to think like historians, writers, and critics of literature. Above all, her goal is to give agency to the learner.
Carney is an education outreach specialist with Project LINK (Learning to Generate Inferences and Building Knowledge Using an Online Platform), where she develops high-interest reading curricula for sixth and seventh-grade students. Designed for English learners and students with reading difficulties, this program aligns with Carney’s previous work in creating engaging, research-backed curricula to help students of all backgrounds and abilities succeed in the classroom.
